Project details

Project Background

This case involved petrochemical pipeline maintenance within the Sinopec system. The site required inspection, partial pipe replacement and weld preparation for existing process pipelines inside a plant area. The working environment included dense pipeline layouts, fixed pipe sections and limited operating space.

Because the maintenance window was limited, the project required stable cutting performance, consistent bevel geometry and efficient on-site operation. Manual cutting and grinding alone could not meet the expected consistency and time requirements for the weld preparation process.

On-Site Application

The project site used a LEHUNDI external clamping pipe cutting and beveling machine for on-site pipe cutting and bevel processing. The equipment was mounted around the outside of the pipe, allowing the operator to process fixed pipelines without removing the entire pipe section.

During the work, the machine completed old pipe cutting, pipe end facing and bevel preparation before welding. Compared with flame cutting and manual grinding, mechanical processing helped reduce repeated manual correction and provided a cleaner, more consistent pipe end for later fit-up and welding.

Site Challenges

Petrochemical maintenance sites often have complex pipe layouts and restricted working areas. In this case, several pipe sections were already installed in fixed positions, leaving limited room for conventional cutting methods.

Key challenges included:

  • Fixed pipelines that could not be moved for workshop processing.
  • A limited shutdown window with high efficiency requirements.
  • Different pipe materials and wall thicknesses requiring stable tooling performance.
  • Manual grinding risks causing inconsistent bevel angles and uneven pipe ends.

Equipment Performance

The LEHUNDI external clamping pipe cutting and beveling machine completed the required cutting and beveling work on site. Its clamping method was suitable for fixed pipeline maintenance, and the equipment helped reduce repeated adjustment and manual grinding time.

After the operation, the site team reported smoother pipe end preparation, more consistent bevel formation and easier follow-up welding preparation. This case shows the practical value of LEHUNDI pipe cutting and beveling equipment in petrochemical plant maintenance, pipeline replacement and shutdown service scenarios.
