Pipe End Beveling Application in Stainless Steel Pipeline Modification for a Pharmaceutical Plant in India
Project details
Project Background
This project was applied at a stainless steel pipeline modification and equipment maintenance site in a pharmaceutical plant in India. The work involved partial replacement of process pipelines, adjustment of equipment connection pipes, pipe section processing near valve groups and pipe end preparation before welding. Pharmaceutical plant pipelines usually have higher requirements for cleanliness, assembly accuracy and welding quality, so pipe end processing quality directly affects later fit-up and welding results.
Unlike large petrochemical pipeline maintenance, pharmaceutical plant sites often involve small and medium stainless steel pipelines. Some pipelines are close to equipment, walls or brackets, leaving limited external operating space. The customer needed portable, stable and site-friendly pipe end processing equipment to improve weld preparation efficiency during pipeline modification.
On-Site Application
The project site used LEHUNDI internal expanding pipe beveling equipment for stainless steel pipe end beveling and end face finishing. The equipment expands and positions itself through the internal diameter of the pipe, without requiring a complex external clamping structure, making it suitable for quick pipe end processing in limited-space areas.
In actual construction, the equipment was mainly used for end face finishing before connecting new and old pipe sections, pre-weld beveling, short pipe processing near valve groups and modification of equipment connection pipes. Compared with relying completely on manual grinding, the internal expanding beveling equipment helped make pipe ends more regular, kept bevel angles easier to control and reduced repeated on-site grinding and adjustment time.
Project Challenges
Pharmaceutical plant pipeline modification sites are usually compact, with multiple pipe specifications and some areas unsuitable for large cutting equipment or external clamping machines. The site needed to maintain work efficiency while reducing impact on existing equipment and surrounding pipelines.
The main site challenges included: some pipelines were close to equipment and brackets, leaving limited space for external clamping; stainless steel pipelines required higher pipe end quality and pre-weld preparation; small and medium pipe sizes changed frequently, requiring equipment that could be adapted quickly; manual grinding could easily cause uneven end faces and inconsistent bevel angles; the modification window was limited, so repeated on-site finishing time needed to be reduced.
Application Results
LEHUNDI internal expanding pipe beveling equipment was used in this project for pipe end processing and weld preparation of stainless steel pipelines in the pharmaceutical plant. The compact structure and internal positioning method were suitable for on-site processing of small and medium pipes, helping the construction team complete end facing and beveling in limited-space areas.
After use, the site reported more stable pipe end processing, smoother pre-weld fit-up, reduced manual grinding workload and improved efficiency in pipeline replacement and equipment connection pipe modification. This case shows the practical value of LEHUNDI internal expanding pipe beveling equipment in pharmaceutical plants, food and chemical facilities, fine chemical production and industrial equipment maintenance.
