Project details

Project Background

This project was applied in a shipyard pipe prefabrication and vessel repair site in Vietnam. The work involved prefabrication of ship piping systems, repair replacement, local pipe section finishing and preparation before welding assembly. Shipyard piping includes many pipe types and frequently changing specifications, with both batch pipe section processing in the prefabrication workshop and on-site processing inside vessel compartments or repair areas.

Shipyard pipe processing is different from single-station work in a standard factory. Some pipe sections need to be cut, processed and prepared before welding in the prefabrication workshop, while some repair sections must be adjusted on site according to the vessel internal space and pipeline position. The customer wanted to improve pipe processing efficiency and reduce manual grinding and repeated on-site adjustment time through pipe prefabrication cutting equipment, pipe end processing equipment and welding support equipment.

On-Site Application

The project site used LEHUNDI pipe prefabrication cutting equipment, pipe end processing equipment and welding support assembly equipment for shipyard pipe prefabrication and repair work. The equipment covered batch pipe section cutting, pipe end facing, pre-weld bevel preparation, pipe section positioning and assembly support before welding.

In the prefabrication workshop, the equipment was mainly used for batch processing of pipe sections in different specifications, helping pipe sections maintain more stable pipe end quality before entering welding and assembly. In the repair area, the equipment was used for local pipe section replacement, short pipe processing and pipe end finishing in limited compartment spaces. Welding support equipment helped with pipe section positioning, support and pre-weld coordination, making later welding preparation smoother.

Project Challenges

Shipyard pipe prefabrication and repair sites usually face multiple pipe sizes, complex working spaces, tight repair schedules and high requirements for pipe section assembly. The equipment needed to support batch processing in the workshop while also being suitable for on-site repair and compartment work.

The main site challenges included: ship piping specifications changed frequently, so the equipment needed to adapt to different pipe diameters and processing requirements; repair spaces inside compartments were limited, making large equipment difficult to use; batch processing in the prefabrication workshop required consistent pipe end quality; repair pipe section replacement needed to reduce repeated on-site grinding and rework; pipe section positioning and pre-weld assembly accuracy affected later welding quality and installation efficiency.

Application Results

LEHUNDI pipe prefabrication and welding support equipment was used in this project for shipyard pipe prefabrication, repair replacement and pre-weld assembly support. The equipment helped the shipyard reduce manual cutting, pipe end grinding and temporary adjustment time, making the prefabricated pipe section process more stable and on-site repair preparation more flexible.

After use, the site reported improved pipe section prefabrication efficiency, more regular pipe end processing, easier control of repair pipe section replacement and smoother pre-weld positioning and assembly.
